This painting was inspired by a vivid childhood memory of a Louisville landmark, the Heigold House facade. It is now in its second location in my lifetime near the entrance of the future botanical garden.
The detached facade with views of the landscape behind it has a surreal, dreamlike quality that I wanted to capture.
My grandmother has a memorial brick placed there. Through some confusion, it took 4 years for this to happen. I half wanted to paint her throwing a brick through the doorway. Instead she became the smaller tree under the Gothic arch space made by neighboring trees!
